Well what do you feed your dog? Kibble? You can put kibble in a kong, but you need to get it to stick in there a bit. You can add some wet dog food.

Some like to layer treats, kibble, and peanut butter or spray cheese.

Some people look at stuff like banana, yogurt, and meat scrapes and think. . . oh no that is human food. If I gave that to my dog they will get sick or won't eat their kibble. That is just not true. Feeding kibble to a dog is a relatively new idea. Dogs used to eat whatever their humans ate. Frankly if it is healthy for you, it is healthy for your dog. So meat scrapes are good, fat scrapes are bad. Mac and Cheese is not the best, but mixed with kibble or meat, i would feed it to my dogs.

The idea with the kong is that you are adding treats as well as healthy food so the dog will have to work a little to get at it. Many people like to freeze the kong after they stuff it to make it take longer for the dog to get it all out.
my favorite is a little peanut butter and dog food use enough peanut butter to coat the dog food and get it sticky. this last longer then treats and other stuff. just make sure you clean it ofter i use a little soap and the sprayer on the sink.
I just stuff a banana and freeze it.
baby carrots or green beans (frozen) with dog food

peanut-butter (a bit messy)

most any fresh fruits or veggies (no raisins or grapes)
The Kong company sells a liver treat that is Kong shaped, and their brand of peanut butter in the pet store. I buy the smooth peanut butter from the grocery.

It's much cheaper. Put it inside the Kong, shake it down and there you go, your pup will be busy for hours with a delicious treat.

As for the bananas. My boys love them. They are perfectly healthy for dogs. In fact, the place where we board has bananas listed as an option as well. When we asked for bananas and popcorn to be given as a treat every other day they didn't know what to do. While they offered it as an option they had never had anyone order it. Both of our boys love it. We have checked with our veteranarian who said it was fine on all three counts. Both dogs are normal weight range by the way.

You may be able to find low fat peanut butter options if that is a concern for you.
Peanut butter works great.

I get sample packs of quality dog food every time I'm in my animal supply store, and I'll mix those with peanut butter inside a kong too.
Get some meat gravy, dilute it a bit (would probably be too salty and unhealthy otherwise) and put it in the kong and freeze it overnight. Great for hot days and lasts ages.
